Today I worked in the studio preparing canvas (several of them) for painting. I like to use a toned canvas versus the primed white canvas. The tone varies a bit but it is basically a 50% gray mixture using Flake White and Lamp Black. I add a little color tone using Burnt Sienna and Naples Yellow to create a medium dull tone similar to camel color in the shade if that makes any sense (it works for me).
Once the color is applied to the canvas I spread it around evenly using a 2 inch flat brush. Keep in mind a lot of medium is used to keep the color (paint) easy to move around the canvas. The consistency is similar to thin mayonnaise.
Much of the work I am planning is still life paintings with a style of the old masters. I look forward to sharing new work with you soon.
Michael
